Collection: Wooden & Chrome Floor Lamps

Floor lamps designed to light a room the way a window does: softly, from the side, without the flat overhead glare that makes a living room feel like an office. Our Japandi floor lamps pair solid timber and fabric shades with restrained silhouettes, drawing on the Japanese preference for diffused light and the Scandinavian habit of lighting a room in layers rather than all at once.

Most sit between 140 and 155cm, which is the height at which a shade throws light across a seating area rather than into it. Turn off the ceiling light, put two of these in opposite corners, and a room changes character entirely.

Choosing a floor lamp

Timber-based lamps suit rooms with natural materials already in play: linen, rattan, wool, stone. Chrome and metal columns work harder in a space that needs contrast, and they read more architectural beside a dark sofa or a plaster wall.

For reading, place the lamp slightly behind and to one side of the chair so the light falls over your shoulder onto the page. For atmosphere, put it in a corner and let it wash the wall.
