The Asa Mug is hand-finished stoneware in a soft cream glaze, with natural speckling that develops in the firing rather than added on top. The body has the weight and warmth of properly made ceramics: substantial in the hand, neither too heavy nor too light, with a small handle that sits comfortably between the fingers.
Sized for a generous morning coffee, a long pour of tea, or a small bowl of oatmeal. The wider mouth and lower profile suit both. Sold as a set of two, designed to live in daily use rather than sit on a shelf.
No two are identical. The speckle pattern, the glaze pooling near the rim, the slight irregularity of the wheel-thrown form, each mug carries the small evidence of having been made by hand.
Asa means morning in Japanese. The hour this mug was built for.
