Terracotta Planters & Plant Pots

Aged terracotta planters and textured stoneware plant pots, chosen for the way clay behaves over time rather than how it looks on the day it arrives. Terracotta is porous, so it breathes with the plant, wicks away excess water and gradually develops a chalky patina that no finish can fake.

Our terracotta planters run from small windowsill pots to wider floor-standing forms, several with matching saucers. The palette stays in the burnt-earth range: rust, clay, oat and pale sand, all of which sit comfortably against greenery without competing with it.

Choosing a plant pot

Size up rather than down. A pot roughly 2 to 4cm wider than the plant's current root ball gives it somewhere to grow without leaving so much wet soil that the roots sit cold.

Terracotta dries faster than glazed ceramic or plastic, which suits Mediterranean herbs, succulents and anything that resents wet feet. For thirstier plants, a saucer helps, and our aged planters come with one.

Indoors, group three pots of different heights rather than lining them up. Outdoors, terracotta weathers well but is not frost-proof; bring smaller pots under cover in hard winters.
