Ceramic & Stoneware Vases

Hand-finished stoneware and ceramic vases in matte glazes, made to hold a single stem as convincingly as a full arrangement. Our Japandi vases follow the wabi-sabi principle that an object does not need to be perfect to be beautiful: small irregularities in the glaze and the throwing are left visible rather than polished out, so no two pieces are quite identical.

Most are sculptural enough to stand empty. That matters more than it sounds, because a vase that only works with flowers in it is a vase that looks wrong for most of the year.

Styling a vase

Odd numbers work better than even. Three vases of different heights on a console read as intentional; two read as a mistake. Leave more negative space around a sculptural piece than feels comfortable, and let the shape do the work.

For stems, less is more: a single curving branch in a wide-mouthed vase says more than a dense bunch. Matte beige and indigo glazes sit easily against timber, linen and plaster.
